Week 5

I tried to take outdoor photo's this week for our lesson on framing. I like taking landscape pictures for some reason they are interesting to me. Some of the pictures might take a little ascetic license as they are not the greatest demonstration of framing, but I though it would be OK.
I wanted to combine the too posts for this week instead of making separate ones. The thing I liked most about the reading on composition was when it was talked about that taking pictures is an easier art for at first than say painting. The basics are learned quickly without extensive background training say with other mediums. The point that was made though with photography was that it was easy to learn the ropes at first but into the upper echelons the techniques would take along time to master. I can see this when I look at my pictures compared to a professional photographers. The more advanced you go with photography better the pictures come out. I can see this now and what it really means to take a good photo and that it's not that easy.

  1. Great framing of the lake with the house, I also really like the tree house, did you build it? The shot of the lake at sunset has very nice color, it did take a moment to realize that was a dog in your pic , what is he carrying? A fish maybe?

  2. Thanks tom, It's a plastic duck used for training. I am not sure who built that tree house it's someone who lives on the end of the point.

  3. I like your theme of nature. Great pictures. A lot of them show symmetry too, helps emphasize the framing of them. I thought it was a fish in the dogs mouth too, I had to re-look after I read your comments. I think that's my favorite photo, I like that the dog is the focus but my eye draws to the tree.

  4. I agree, the doggie photo is a real winner, it's unusual and arty. The two lake scenes are probably the most traditional as far as framing is concerned. Wow is that a gorgeous view.

  6. John I thought these were great. I especially liked the one of your dog in it, just because it added that special touch, and I really like the lake shot. That one was great, with great colors.

  7. very nice lake view! The horizon may be centered, but i think it looks best the way you did it. The lake sunset is also quite incredible. The clouds and sun seem to be well on your side!
I also enjoy the picture of the tree house, as tree houses are pretty cool along with that is follows the rule of thirds.

  9. That last photo, with the sun setting, is beautiful. For some reason, even though there's snow in it, it makes me hopeful that spring will be here someday soon!

  10. I really like the photo of the white house with the red shutters and the bright sky. It is so simple, but the colors are so pretty together. The composition is what really pulls the photo together though.
