This is the original picture I used.
There is not much color in this picture so I tried to change that. The first filtering effect I used was a color filter. I tried to layer the colors to make the image stand out and improve its overall sense of a dull winter day.
For my second filter effect I used a gradient effect on the dog himself. This effect focus more on altering shadows. My intention was to make it look like light was beaming off him in all his glory and to have the ducks really stand out as he was so proud of retrieving them.
As for dodge and burn I think this was the one I struggled with the most. I defiantly need to practice more with this. The picture I used is of some canada geese I was lucky enough to get close of to snap a photo of. I used the dodge tool on the back of the geese neck to try and create some shading. I then used the burn tool to darken the area behind the geese and darken the white plumage on the fronts of there chests. I am not that artistic so this was hard for me. I think I clicked my mouse 50000 times doing this process so there is probably and easier way any tips would be appreciated.

John, great job with your photos this week! I really appreciate that you also use your work to bring back fond memories and make it personal. It really shows in your creativity, and it is a wonderful use of art!
ReplyDeleteJohn, I really like how you took your dogs feelings and showed them with a filter. It deffinetly looks like a light is shining on him. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteYour colorized doggy photo is very nice although we kind of lose the ducks at the bottom, but the dog looks great. I can see you struggled with the Canadian Geese. One trick is to enlarge the view of the photo when you're working on it so you are really close to what you're doing, that way you can be more detailed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa that's a good idea I didn't think of that
ReplyDeleteJohn, I love the work you did with the dog photos. I have to say the gradient filter is precious how you made him almost angelic and beaming with pride of his catch for the day. I will have to try enlarging my photos to see more of the details as well. I like that tip! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI like the photos of the dog. The second one is given almost a grungy, old effect while still sharp and vibrant. Love the ducks too using the tools you gave them more depth bringing them more to life.
