I wish I could have got more variation for this weeks assignment I know everyone is probably sick of looking at the same picture of the island in front of my house. I like to take my camera with me when I am walking my dog and it just happens to end up that way that I take a few similar pictures. Lisa gave me some good advice a couple weeks ago about how using 2/3's of the horizon is beneficial for landscaping shots and I tried to use this in some extent for this week. My intention normally is to capture the sky and landscape as one, I have to say I am not a big fan of framing for landscaping pictures, I understand its uses and when done correctly it comes out great. I apologize if some of the pictures are repetitive or dull I just started taking photos and do not have a big repertoire of pictures to fall back on, so I just take what I can get for the week.
I'm not tired of seeing the island in front of your house... yet. It's a very beautiful view. You're lucky to see a view like that every day. I really like the last picture you posted. I'm tired, so my brain makes little sense, but when I first saw it it kind of looked like the clouds had just fallen into the water.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heidi its the steam that comes off the lake when it's really cold out. I almost froze to death taking that shot.
ReplyDeleteYou've made some great steps forward with your work since week one, kudos! The first is my favorite as is. The last one is a close tie, the only thing stopping it from being my favorite was a desire to play with it in the darkroom a bit. I hope you don't take offense, I couldn't help but do just that. Here's a link to what the image looks like with slightly more exposure as well as a little dodging and burning to bring out the details and contrast. Let me know once you've had a chance to check it out and I'll remove it. The only way I could figure out to share it with you was through this link.

The album is coming up restricted for me, I am curious to see what you did with the picture.
ReplyDeleteHuh, I made it public...... give me a little bit and I'll see what I can do.
ReplyDeleteOkay, try going to it and using the username and password jmyers (I used that for both). Apparently even when you make something public with me.com galleries, it's not actually public. *puzzled expression*

Ha ha I can't look at mine anymore because I am to busy looking at yours. I need to work on exposure, I am to point and click happy. The darkness on the lake and background really makes the steam on the lake pop. Thanks for taking the time to play around with my picture, I am trying to learn photo shop as I go and so far it has been a headache.
ReplyDeleteNo problem :) It's tricky, but you'll get it. I've been working with editing software for years and I'm still learning. I far prefer the old fashioned darkroom to the modern "lightrooms" as I suppose they're correctly called.
ReplyDeleteOh and if you want to have that, download it. I'm canceling my service with MobileMe tonight or tomorrow as I've decided it's not worth the money and my free trial is about to be up.
ReplyDeleteI'll grab it, Copyright John Myers made me feel important. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha didn't want anyone either mistaking it for my work, as that wouldn't be fair to you, or taking it since it was *supposed* to be public. I always copyright any work that I put on the web or display in another public setting. When I was in high school I had an incident of my work being stolen. I was using a community darkroom and had some prints drying. When I went to get them they were gone. A teacher at my high school had been visiting a gallery at Johnson State and complimented me on my picture (they'd seen another print of the same piece in my portfolio). Thing was, I hadn't submitted anything for that particular exhibit, someone else was showing my work as theirs. Needless to say I was livid and ever since I've become overprotective of my art.
ReplyDeleteYou defintely took the advice well with your pictures and the horizon. Great job. I think my favorite is the third one because of layers of the sky. I like how it is gloomy at the top and then a break in the clouds. And I love the last one as well. Great landscape photos.
ReplyDeleteJohn Awesome photos. I think your photos have a great feel to them. The lake is beautiful and the way you captured the steam coming off the water is so amazing. I never get tired of landscape photos with sunsets and beautiful mountains - they make nice warm photos.
ReplyDeleteJohn, there are some artists who paint the same subject over and over, in different light, weather, settings. Your lake shots are like that. You could probably take a shot an hour during one of those VT days when the weather is changeable and have a great set. These are really neat, I love the variation and am sorry you don't see it yourself. It's the little details that can make a shot and you seem to have a good sense of that.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love the shot of the lake where the sun is shinning so bright you can see it's rays! It is so gorgeous. I really love your landscape photos. There is something so serene about your work. I really love it!
